We know it more widely under a slightly different trade name - Viagra. If you have never used this preparation, you have certainly heard this word more than once. Many men (and rightly so!) Associate it with a strong and long-lasting erection. But are these really the results of taking it? Viagra - what is it?

Popularly known as the "blue pill", Viagra is a prescription pill. The main task of this preparation is to induce an erection. However, it does not happen that you just get an erection after taking the medicine. Well, there is one factor that is independent of the pill - sexual arousal. Thus, if the man taking Viagra does not become excited, the effects of the drug will not be visible.

Viagra - composition

The active substance of this preparation is the aforementioned sildenafil, or more specifically sildenafil citrate. Currently, these pills are available in 3 dosage sizes, i.e .: 25 mg 50 mg 100 mg. In addition, these tablets contain a number of excipients, such as microcrystalline cellulose, anhydrous calcium hydrogen phosphate, croscarmellose sodium, and magnesium stearate. On the other hand, the capsule shell consists of from hypromellose, titanium dioxide (E171), lactose monohydrate, triacetin, indigo carmine, E 132 lake.

Viagra - action and application

Now that you know what Viagra is, it's time to find out more about when it is recommended and how it affects your body. The basic premise for the use of sildenafil is symptomatic treatment of erectile dysfunction. It is about the absolute inability to get an erection, and the problems with achieving full excitement or maintaining it for the time needed for intercourse. Importantly, Viagra is only recommended for men aged 18 or over. This is due to the fact that hormonal changes are still taking place in a young man's body until the age of majority. The use of such therapy could disrupt the normal development of the body, which in turn would most likely lead to further complications. But what is Viagra's action? Sildenafil contained in it enhances the properties of nitric oxide. This relationship plays an important role in the proper functioning of the male "plumber". The body releases it, among others in the moment of excitement, causing the so-called isolated human cavernous bodies. Exactly as found in the male genitalia. As you already know - Viagra's action is not automatic, i.e. taking it does not result in an erection as such, but only enables it to be achieved during sexual arousal. So, for the sildenafil contained in the pill to have the effect you are hoping for, it must be stimulated, for example by seeing an attractive woman or, preferably, by physical stimulation. It's also worth noting that Viagra can cause a temporary and slight drop in blood pressure.

Viagra - effectiveness

Time for the big question - how effective is Viagra actually? Most of the opinions are flattering for sildenafil, as up to 70% of patients enjoy the improvement of their sexual condition. There is, however, one big but. The problem is, this medicine won't work for everyone. This is due to the fact that Viagra is effective only in men who struggle with erection problems due to mental or neurological problems. However, men suffering from lowered blood pressure or atrophy of the cavernous bodies in the penis cannot expect any effects. It is also worth noting that the body becomes used to sildenafil over time. So, in the long run, the miraculous blue pill loses its potency or requires a higher dose. However, an excess, i.e. an overdose of this preparation, often leads to the opposite effect of Viagra - the so-called secondary impotence. On the other hand, if an overdose occurs, priapism can occur, i.e. an erection lasting up to 6 hours without the penis going slack, even if there were several intercourse ended with ejaculation. Contrary to appearances - it is not a desired state, on the contrary. It can be very dangerous for the body and is associated with severe pain. Even if your emotional excitement has subsided and your penis has not, it's time to call your doctor. Failure to do so may even lead to serious clots. <2h>Viagra - correct dosage So, as you can see for yourself, in order to at least avoid these side effects of Viagra, it must be dosed carefully. Above all, you should stick to the instructions given by the doctor. He decides how much sildenafil should be consumed and decides whether to increase the amount. The most commonly recommended dose is 50 mg taken approximately 1 hour before intercourse. It is worth remembering that the blue tablet is taken only once a day. However, it does not matter whether you take it before, during or after a meal. The pill is swallowed whole and washed down with water. It's worth noting that Viagra doesn't work the same for every man. It is estimated that the body reacts after about 0.5-1 hour, and the highest concentration of sildenafil in the body occurs up to 2 hours after taking the tablet.

Viagra - contraindications

You already know that Viagra isn't always effective in every case. There are also some contraindications to taking it. The first and the main one is hypersensitivity to the active substance or another component of the preparation. It is also not recommended to take sildenafil in the case of people suffering from severe heart failure and with unstable angina. Additionally, Viagra should not be taken by people who: have recently had a stroke or heart attack, suffer from severe liver failure, have hereditary retinal degenerative changes, are taking drugs that release nitric oxide, nitrates, and drugs that stimulate guanylate cyclase. Viagra - side effects Viagra's most common short-term side effects, when used correctly, are usually mild. In rare cases, however, unforeseen, even life-threatening reactions may occur. Therefore, first of all, you should pay attention to whether after taking the blue tablet there has been, among others: an allergic reaction (most often seen as difficulty breathing and swelling) the appearance of pains in the chest area that disappears when you are in a semi-sitting position, severe skin reactions including blistering in the pubic area or in the mouth painful erection, convulsions or seizures. In addition, after taking Viagra, dizziness, headaches, visual disturbances (including vision with a bluish tinge) often appear. Sildenafil has a number of other, also less common, side effects, including in the area of the circulatory and respiratory system.

Viagra and drinking alcohol

The moment of rapprochement is of course a moment of entertainment, often preceded, for example, by a romantic dinner. This one, in turn, often cannot do without a glass of red wine. What about drinking alcohol and the possible side effects of Viagra? Basically, there are no major contraindications and no concerns about their occurrence. However, higher amounts of alcohol drinks can make it difficult to get a satisfactory erection. Therefore, knowing that the evening will end with frolicking in bed, it is better to stay with only one glass of red wine.

Viagra - where to buy?

It should be noted that if you want to use Viagra, you must always use the offer of proven sellers. However, taking into account the fact that it is a prescription drug in Poland, it can only be obtained at a pharmacy. However, it may happen that you find Viagra on the Internet, for example. The shape and color, and even the box, may correspond to what a real blue tablet actually looks like. The problem is that preparations containing sildenafil and its derivatives are among the most frequently counterfeited drugs. Of course, Viagra is most often copied. The prices of fakes, while often bargain, are not worth the risk. And it's not because it's often just colored polopyrin. Sellers of pseudo-Viagra often go so far as to sell in this form ... cement, without any active substance. Therefore, before you start researching Viagra prices online, go to the doctor with your problem first. He will determine if the Pfizer product is applicable to you at all. When you receive the prescription, you can check in official price comparison websites where and at what cost you can buy blue pills.

Viagra - is it worth using?

Although the films often presented this preparation as a miracle drug for potency, as you could see above, it is not so obvious. Sildenafil is used only in certain situations and not everyone has the same results. However, the fact that up to 70% of patients benefit from taking Viagra has a very good prognosis. However, you should remember about the correct dosage, otherwise you can see the world blue and struggle with a prolonged, painful erection, not to mention other side effects. It is worth remembering that Viagra is not the only solution available on the market. There are other tablets available in pharmacies and drugstores, including those that use herbal ingredients. There are also so-called generics, i.e. drugs containing substances similar to sildenafil. However, if you feel that only a blue pill can help you ... go to your doctor first.
